Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based primary healthcare within a general practice setting. Working collaboratively with General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Allied Health professionals, and administrative staff, the Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, and ongoing management. The role requires a high level of clinical autonomy while practising in accordance with AHPRA standards, relevant legislation, and professional guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions within the endorsed scope of practice.
- Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests and investigations.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment and management plans.
- Provide preventive healthcare, health screening, immunisation advice, and health promotion.
- Deliver patient education and support self-management of chronic conditions.
- Perform clinical procedures within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
- Coordinate patient care with GPs, specialists, hospitals, and allied health providers.
- Participate in chronic disease management, care planning, and health assessments.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using the practice’s electronic medical records.
- Ensure compliance with professional, ethical, legal, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, clinical governance, and continuing professional development.
- Contribute to a collaborative, patient-centred multidisciplinary team environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Current registration and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated experience in primary healthcare, general practice, or community health.
- Authority to prescribe and request diagnostic investigations within legislative requirements.
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Current CPR certification, National Police Check, and Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (or willingness to obtain).
